David Prowse

David Prowse is best known to fans around the world as Darth Vader from the classic original trilogy. Darth Vader is one of the most recognized on screen characters in history, and was named as the third greatest villain of all time by the American Film Institute.

When David attended an audition for the film Star Wars, the film was not considered to be a big thing at the time and the audition was held by director George Lucas. At the meeting, George offered David either the part of Chewbacca or Darth Vader. Instantly turning away the role of Chewbacca, David insisted he play the lead villain. George asked David why he wanted to play Vader, to which David replied “Everyone remembers the villain, George.” David played the role of Darth Vader for the entirety of the original Star Wars trilogy.

Prowse's body of work spreads across multiple genres, having also appeared in several other films and television shows such as A Clockwork Orange, Vampire Circus, the Doctor Who serial The Time Monster, The Tomorrow People, Space: 1999, the 1981 BBC TV adaptation of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Benny Hill Show and even played Frankenstein's monster twice, in Hammer Film Productions The Horror of Frankenstein and Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell.
